Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences.

EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment

  • Phase 1: History-taking session(s)

  • Phase 2: The therapist ensures that the client has several ways of handling emotional distress

  • Phases 3-6: A target is identified and processed using EMDR therapy procedures

  • Phase 7: Closure

  • Phase 8: Examining the progress
